Credit Card Forex Markup Calculator
When you pay in a foreign currency, abroad or on an international website, your bank adds a forex markup of 0–3.5% plus 18% GST. See what it costs you and which cards charge the least.
What is forex markup?
Forex markup is a percentage fee that card issuers add to the exchange rate on foreign-currency transactions. GST at 18% is charged on top of the markup. So a 3.5% markup really costs 4.13%.
Avoid dynamic currency conversion
Abroad, merchants may offer to charge you in rupees. This "dynamic currency conversion" usually uses a poor exchange rate, and many banks still apply the markup. Always choose to pay in the local currency.
