How banks decide credit card eligibility

  • Income: each card has a minimum monthly income, from about ₹15,000 for entry cards to ₹1.5 lakh+ for premium cards. Where the bank publishes it we use that figure, otherwise we use reported figures and say so.
  • Credit score: 750+ gets the best approval odds and limits. Below 650, a secured card against a fixed deposit is the usual starting point.
  • Existing obligations (FOIR): if EMIs already take more than about 40–50% of your income, banks tend to cut limits or decline.
  • Age and employment: most banks accept salaried applicants aged about 21–60, and self-employed applicants usually need a higher income with ITR proof.

Results here are an informed estimate. The bank makes the final decision after checking your credit report and documents.

FAQs

Does checking eligibility here affect my CIBIL score?

No. This calculator runs in your browser and doesn't pull your credit report. Only a formal application to a bank creates a hard enquiry.

What is the minimum salary for a credit card in India?

Entry-level cards typically start at around ₹15,000–25,000 a month. Secured cards against a fixed deposit need no income proof.

Why does the calculator say "income not published"?

Some banks don't publish a fixed minimum income for certain cards. Your eligibility then depends on the bank's internal assessment.
