Delhi Metro Card Recharge Online: Every Method, Limit and Fee (2026)

Queueing at a Delhi Metro counter to recharge your card is avoidable. You can top up your DMRC smart card from your phone in under a minute. The only step people get wrong is the last one: an online recharge isn't on your card until you "pick it up" at a station. Here's every method, with limits and fixes for common problems.

Which card do you have?

• DMRC smart card (the blue Delhi Metro card): works only on Delhi Metro. Recharge it on DMRC's portal or through UPI and wallet apps.
• NCMC card (RuPay card with the NCMC or "One Nation One Card" logo): works on Delhi Metro and other NCMC networks. Since May 2026, DMRC stations also sell a co-branded Airtel Payments Bank RuPay NCMC card. You top up the card's offline wallet through its issuing bank's app.

The steps below are for the DMRC smart card. For NCMC, see the section further down.

Method 1: DMRC's official recharge portal

1. Open DMRC's smart card portal and choose Quick Top-Up.
2. Enter your smart card number (printed on the card), the amount and the captcha.
3. Pay by debit card, credit card, net banking, UPI or wallet.
4. Tap your card at an Add Value Machine (AVM) or the reader at the customer care counter on your next visit to load the balance.

Method 2: Paytm, PhonePe and other UPI apps

1. Open the app and find "Metro" or "Metro card recharge".
2. Pick Delhi Metro, enter your smart card number and the amount.
3. Pay, then tap the card at a station AVM or reader to activate the top-up.

Apps sometimes add a small convenience fee or run cashback offers. Compare before you pay.

Recharge limits

Why hasn't my recharge shown up?

Online payments go to DMRC's system, not directly to the chip on your card. The chip only updates when it's read at a station. So:

• Tap the card at an Add Value Machine or ask at customer care to "update the card". This usually needs to happen within a few days of the recharge.
• At the entry gate, some cards update automatically, but don't rely on this if your balance is low.
• Payment deducted but nothing received? Keep the transaction ID. Most app failures refund automatically within a few working days. If not, raise it with the app first, then DMRC customer care.

Recharging an NCMC card for Delhi Metro

NCMC cards carry an offline wallet of up to ₹2,000 that the gate reads without a network connection. You load it through your bank's app or net banking (usually under "NCMC", "transit card" or "offline wallet"), and then, like the DMRC card, update the balance by tapping at a station. Lost or damaged Delhi Metro card

If your DMRC smart card is lost, the balance usually can't be recovered unless the card was registered. If it's damaged but readable, the customer care counter can transfer the balance to a new card. For NCMC cards, block the card in your bank's app first, then ask the bank about the wallet balance.

Smart card or NCMC: which should you use?

Should you recharge with a credit card?

You can, but many credit cards give no rewards on transit or wallet-type loads, and a few charge fees above certain limits. The amounts are small, so it rarely matters.
