Local trains: RailOne replaces UTS
Indian Railways phased out the UTS app in 2026. Unreserved tickets and season passes for Mumbai's Western, Central, Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines are now booked on RailOne, the railways' combined app for reserved and unreserved tickets.
- Install RailOne and log in with your mobile number.
- Choose unreserved ticket, platform ticket or season pass.
- Pick stations, class and number of passengers, then pay.
Railways ran a 3% discount on unreserved tickets bought through RailOne with digital payment from 14 January to 14 July 2026. Check the app for current offers.
Mumbai One: one app for metro, trains and buses
Launched in October 2025, Mumbai One lets you plan and pay for journeys across:
- Metro Lines 1, 2A, 7 and 3, and Navi Mumbai Metro
- Western, Central, Harbour and Trans-Harbour suburban lines
- BEST, NMMT, MBMT and TMT buses
- Monorail
You can buy tickets for different modes in one transaction and use QR codes at gates.
Metro: where NCMC works
Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line, Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ) supports NCMC alongside paper and mobile QR tickets. Reports say NCMC also works on Line 1 (Versova–Andheri–Ghatkopar) and Lines 2A and 7. Mumbai's system accepts dozens of bank-issued NCMC variants, so a RuPay NCMC debit card from most major banks should work. Check gate signage on lines run by different operators before relying on it.

Paying for tickets: UPI or credit card?
Train and metro tickets are small payments, so rewards are small too. A few points to keep in mind:
- Season passes can be several thousand rupees. Paying by a rewards credit card makes sense if your card rewards railway spends. The IRCTC SBI Card Premier is built for IRCTC bookings but may not reward RailOne unreserved purchases the same way. Check your card's terms.

- NCMC wallet loads usually earn no rewards.
First class, AC locals and passes
RailOne lets you choose second class, first class and AC local tickets and passes. AC local fares are higher, and season passes for AC locals are sold separately. Monthly, quarterly and half-yearly passes cost less per trip than daily tickets if you commute most days. Compare the per-trip cost in the app before buying.
What if the app fails at the station?
Network problems at crowded stations are common. Buy your ticket before you reach the platform, and take a screenshot of the QR code where the app allows it. Ticket counters and ticket vending machines are still available at stations if your phone dies. Travelling without a valid ticket carries a penalty, so don't board expecting to buy one later.
Visitors to Mumbai
If you're visiting for a few days, you don't need a pass or card. Install Mumbai One for metro and bus trips and RailOne for local trains, pay by UPI, and keep a paper ticket option in mind for when your phone battery is low. Avoid peak hours (roughly 8–11 am and 6–9 pm) on local trains if you're carrying luggage.
