Which credit card should you use?

  • You have an SBI credit card: use it to get the instant discount. If it's SBI Card Cashback, you may also earn its regular 5% online cashback (now capped at ₹2,000 a month). EMI transactions don't earn cashback.
  • You don't have an SBI card: Amazon Pay ICICI Bank still gives 5% back on Amazon for Prime members, every day of the year, with no cap. On a ₹30,000 purchase that's ₹1,500.
  • HDFC Bank Millennia: 5% on Amazon, capped at ₹1,000 a month, so it suits smaller orders.

Worked example: a ₹60,000 phone

Assume the SBI offer is 10% up to ₹1,750 (check the real cap):

  • SBI credit card: ₹60,000 − ₹1,750 = ₹58,250, before any card rewards.
  • Amazon Pay ICICI (Prime): ₹60,000 − 5% back (₹3,000) = ₹57,000 effective, if there's no bank discount for ICICI.

With a capped instant discount, your everyday 5% card can beat the "sale bank offer" on expensive items. Always compare.

  • Add items to your wishlist now and note the pre-sale price, so you can spot fake discounts.
  • Check whether the offer applies once per card or per order. Splitting orders can help.
  • No-cost EMI still costs GST on interest and a processing fee.
